Maybe you could attract fans by offering on-demand video, or is that Sunday-before-sunrise North American advertising market too important?

Insomniac's are a growth market for advertising.

What would you pay for live Sky Sports F1 (practice, quali, race, commentary) for a season? What about for a single race weekend? I'd say $40 per weekend is not out of the question (though of course I'd be happier with $10 per weekend). However, I am not even allowed to do this in America.

American team. American car. American races. American drivers. That would have me watching...except it would probably be broadcasted on cable which I wouldnt pay for at 4am which I would never get up that early to watch it.

$40 for a whole weekend? Are you actually Bernie Ecclestone?

Only a matter of time before they introduce this:

A regularly-scheduled sport can't survive the pay-per-view model, but I'd pay $5 to watch a on-demand replay.

I hate myself for doing it but I've figured it out. They setup a twitter account where fans say who they hate the most and whoever gets the most votes either gets their kers depleted or their wastegate opened.

To watch it in Australia you can either watch a free to air in standard definition with long ad breaks, or you can pay SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS per month for cable to get it in HD. That's only for quali and the race, they don't show Free Practice or any of the other cool stuff you get on Sky in the UK.
$10 per weekend is nothing by comparison.

Yeah that's what I was thinking of but instead of boosting a driver this would slow them down. Maldonado would still be winless in F1 this existed.

If you're going that way, why not get rid of all engineering restrictions period? Active aero? Allowed. Traction control and automatic transmissions? Allowed.
Now that's a race I'd watch.

The #1 reason I don't follow F1 is the lack of coverage. America doesn't give a shit about racing unless it's NASCAR. The fact that SPEED Network couldn't survive is a testament to how unimportant it is to others. God forbid 1 out of 2000 channels covers automotive everything. It's okay, rather watch Swamp Inbreds anyway.
